Positive changes in mind and body through awareness training
Cathy Pollock is an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique based in Teton Valley, Idaho. She has worked with clients of all backgrounds and abilities for the past 31 years to help them improve the way they use themselves in all of the activities of daily life. Using the Alexander Technique, Learning to Move focuses on developing one’s awareness to let go of harmful patterns of tension that cause discomfort or inefficiency.
What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a way of becoming aware of your habitual ways of movement and thought-how you ‘use’ yourself- in order to choose ease over stress and pain. Habit, by definition , is ‘a regular, often automatic behavior or routine you do repeatedly, sometimes without thinking.’ These learned actions, such as brushing your teeth, can be healthy, and others, such as hurrying around, can cause chronic stress. By consciously recognizing what you do, you can then be free to change how you do it, to choose ease over strain . Certified Alexander Teacher, Cathy Pollock, uses her skills of observation and touch to help you understand your personal patterns of posture, breath and movement. Cathy works in partnership with her ‘students’. Rather than doing something to correct or fix you, Cathy will engage your awareness, helping you to replace unnecessary effort with ease, from the simple actions of sitting and standing, to skiing , playing a musical instrument or riding a horse.
